HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (March 2, 2014) – The 2014 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship Series crossed the halfway mark with round nine held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. Despite frigid temperatures 59,919 fans were on hand and Fox Sports One aired the action live.
Toyota is active in many action and motor sports, including drag racing. Professional drag racer Cruz Pedregon attended the event and brought his Toyota funny car as well. While the Toyota/Yamaha/JGRMX Team always welcomes its Toyota teammates this visit was actually a reunion. Coy Gibbs’ first job in racing was as the bottom end mechanic on Pedregon’s cars when Joe Gibbs Racing fielded a professional drag racing effort before focusing on NASCAR. The old friends shared stories from that era and Pedregon and his crew seemed to thoroughly enjoy the race.
Justin Brayton came down with a severe case of food poisoning after eating fish at a local restaurant on Friday night. He was very sick and dehydrated Saturday but was determined to do his best. As if Brayton needed more adversity, the soil inside Lucas Oil Stadium broke down throughout the day making the track especially treacherous forming deep ruts. Brayton transferred directly to the main event from heat race one. Josh Grant secured a gate in the main in semi two. Brayton began the main in the top-five with Grant inside the top-10. Brayton maintained fifth until just before the halfway mark when the fatigue relegated him to eighth. He maintained eighth to the checkers. Grant had moved into seventh on lap 13 and looked comfortable in that position until a sudden crash on lap 18 moved him back to 12th at the finish. Brayton continues to hold fifth in series points.
Phillip Nicoletti will again join Brayton and Grant in Daytona Beach, Fla. at Daytona International Speedway for round 10 of the 2014 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship on March 8. Fox Sports One will broadcast the race live starting at 7:30 p.m. (EST). Timed qualifying will stream live on supercrossonline.com beginning at 2:00 p.m. (EST).
