Like most of the factory level technicians in motocross, Jonny was exposed to the lifestyle at a young age. In fact, he comes from not one, but two generations of family dealership owners. Jonny started riding at age four. As soon as he could, he was working at his father's dealership, initially cleaning up and mowing grass, and then in the service, parts, and sales departments.
Although he became quite good as a rider, earning an AMA Pro license, he realized he was not suited for a career in the sport as a rider. Jonny turned his sights on the idea of joining professional motocross as a tuner. In 1999, Jonny moved from quiet Wyoming and went to work for Yamaha in Cypress, California as a mechanic in the loan pool (bikes loaned out for promotional purposes).
In 2001, Jonny joined Vintage Iron as a restoration specialist. During that time, Jonny entered five vintage classes at the annual Yamaha Race of Champions and in the process won five world vintage titles.
In 2002, Jonny's keen interest in the suspension aspect of motorcycles led him to RG3 Suspension. Starting in sales, he quickly moved into other areas, including development. Oler played a role in the development of the Diamond Kit released by RG3 to consumers.
In 2006, Jonny was offered a position at American Showa as the Honda factory race team suspension technician liaison between Showa Japan and American Honda. In this capacity Jonny assisted riders such as Davi Millsaps, Kevin Windham, Jeremy McGrath, Travis Preston, Andrew Short, and Tommy Hahn.
When JGRMX team manager Jeremy Albrecht came calling, Jonny was immediately intrigued. The lure of the small town and the prospects of a NASCAR-based professional motocross team seemed like a perfect combination. When he learned he would have the most sophisticated suspension dyno and works components to develop and tune, he accepted the offer. Jonny enjoys the short commute, southern feel, and most of all the ability to quickly change direction and try new settings without any lengthy approval process. firstname.lastname@example.org
