HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (Jan. 26, 2014) – O.co Coliseum in Oakland, Calif. was the site of round four of the 2014 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship. 47,339 fans were in attendance and for those who were not Fox Sports One aired the entire event live.
Josh Grant continues to recover from a crash during the Phoenix round which did not require any surgery, but left him sore and badly bruised affecting his ability to ride and train during the week.
Justin Brayton and Grant transferred to the main from semi number two, with Brayton winning the race and earning an interview with the Fox Sports One audience and the Oakland crowd. Brayton’s recent performances have the attention of the broadcast team. He was used as a feature in transitioning to commercial, and was the topic of the Progressive Pre Race Report where the floor reporter shared that when asked what he had done to elevate his program in 2014 he responded that it was not a single thing, but a combination. Recently married, he said that he felt his core family situation was very strong and that among other things, including an excellent motorcycle, is improving his racing.
In the main event Brayton gated well and nearly had the holeshot rounding the first turn in second place, unfortunately Grant was tangled up toward the rear of the field. Brayton raced in podium contention until lap eight when he settled into fifth while Grant was working his way toward the top-10. Grant made his way up to 11th at the checkers with Brayton fifth, his third top-five finish in as many races.
Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif. will host its third and final round of the series for 2014 on Feb. 1. Fox Sports One will air all of the action live staring at 10:00 p.m. (EST). Timed qualifying will stream live on supercrossonline.com beginning at 4:30 p.m. (EST).
