Thunder Valley Results
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (June 8, 2014) – Thunder Valley Raceway in Lakewood, Colo. was host to round three of the 2014 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series. MAVTV aired the first moto live, and the second moto was broadcast live by the NBC Sports Network. First motos are always streamed live on promotocross.com and both motos from each round are archived on promotocross.com.
Justin Brayton continues to recover from a knee injury and has missed the first three rounds of the series but is expected to race next Saturday. The entire Toyota/Yamaha/JGRMX Team congratulates Brayton and his wife Paige on the birth of their first child, Parker Lyn Brayton, born June 5. Josh Grant and Phil Nicoletti, with support from St. Lawrence Radiology and N-FAB raced for the Toyota/Yamaha/JGRMX team in Lakewood.
Josh Grant was diagnosed with the strep virus last week, and was not able to train normally. He was second fastest in the first qualifying practice and elected to sit out the second practice to conserve energy. When the gate dropped for moto one it was Grant first across the stripe with Nicoletti just behind in third. On the second lap Nicoletti crashed and re-entered the race in 23rd while Grant settled into fifth. Grant remained steady throughout the 30 minute plus two lap race finishing fifth, Nicoletti managed to race all the way up to 12th.
Grant again started at the front in moto two, settling into fifth place with Nicoletti eighth in the early laps. Grant held the top-five position until late in the moto when he gave up one place to finish sixth. Nicoletti was 12th at the checkers. Grant’s 5 – 6 scores equated to fifth overall, with Nicoletti’s 12 – 11 results earning him 12th for the day.
The series moves on to High Point Raceway in Mt. Morris, Pa. Sat. June 14. Justin Brayton is expected to return, and Phil Nicoletti will race as a third rider on the team with support from N-FAB and St. Lawrence Radiology. MAVTV will broadcast the first moto live at 12:00 p.m. (EST). The second moto will air live on the NBC Sports Network at 2:00 p.m. (EST). The first moto will also stream live on promotocross.com.
